Opioid & Fentanyl Rehab in Houston

Fentanyl has changed every part of opioid use disorder. Tolerance is higher, overdose is more common, and detox-only treatment fails most of the time. Altura Recovery offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) inside our PHP and IOP, paired with structured sober housing through a sober living partner for clients who need the structure.

Short answer: how does outpatient rehab fit?

Altura Recovery provides outpatient addiction treatment in Houston after detox when needed, or directly when medical detox is not required. Most clients begin with PHP or IOP, then step down as stability, cravings, and support improve.

Where outpatient fits

Most opioid and fentanyl clients start with medical detox and a Suboxone or Vivitrol induction before transitioning to us. We coordinate directly with Houston-area detox facilities and accept warm handoffs the day of discharge.

From there, the typical path at Altura Recovery is Partial Hospitalization (PHP) for the first three to four weeks, then step-down to Intensive Outpatient (IOP) for two to three months. Clients who need housing structure live at one of our sober living partners throughout PHP and IOP.

What treatment specifically covers

Medication-Assisted Treatment

Buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subutex) maintenance and Vivitrol injections managed by our medical team. MAT is evidence-based and dramatically improves survival and retention.

Fentanyl-specific risks

Fentanyl test strips, Narcan training for clients and families, overdose-survivor protocols, and contamination awareness for all stimulants.

Pain and prescription origin

Many opioid clients started with a legitimate prescription after surgery, injury, or chronic pain. We address pain management alongside recovery.

Family Narcan and overdose response

Every family member who wants training gets Narcan and walk-through during family sessions.

Structured accountability through sober living

For clients who need housing alongside clinical care, Altura Recovery coordinates with established sober living programs across the Houston metro. We don't operate housing ourselves — we maintain working relationships with separately operated houses so clients have a stable place to live while they attend PHP or IOP.

For families comparing gender-specific sober living options, we often point them to Aspire Recovery Homes' Houston resources for sober living for women in Houston and sober living for men in Houston, while also helping them evaluate other separately operated homes when those are a better fit.

What "structured accountability" means in a sober house

  • House manager on site or on call, peer-led check-ins, curfews
  • Random drug and alcohol screens
  • Required attendance at clinical sessions
  • Weekly recovery meetings and step work
  • Job, school, or volunteer expectations after stabilization

How it works with Altura Recovery clinical care

  • Admissions team helps you find a sober house that fits
  • Transportation coordinated between house and Altura when needed
  • Clinical team communicates with house staff to support your plan
  • Step-down planning starts on day one
  • Continued sober living after PHP and IOP if needed

Sober living programs are operated separately from Altura Recovery. Housing fees are billed independently and are not part of clinical billing.

Frequently asked questions

Does Altura Recovery provide opioid and fentanyl detox?

Altura Recovery is an outpatient program and does not provide on-site medical detox. If detox is clinically needed first for opioid and fentanyl, we help coordinate it with a trusted partner and provide PHP, IOP, or Structured Outpatient care as the step-down afterward.

What does opioid and fentanyl treatment at Altura involve?

Outpatient care at our Bellaire clinic — Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Structured Outpatient (SOP) — combining individual therapy, group work, and dual-diagnosis support for any co-occurring mental health condition.

Is my insurance accepted?

Altura Recovery is in-network with Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Cigna, Curative, UnitedHealthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Most PPO plans cover outpatient addiction treatment when medical necessity is documented. We verify your benefits free before you start.

Can I keep working during treatment?

Many clients keep working. IOP runs about three sessions a week with morning and evening tracks, and Virtual IOP across Texas removes the commute when in-person scheduling is hard.

Is treatment confidential?

Yes. Care is confidential and protected by federal privacy rules including 42 CFR Part 2. We do not contact employers, family, or outside providers without a signed release unless an immediate safety issue requires it by law.

Recovery starts with a phone call — or a text.

Our admissions line is answered 24/7. Confidential. Free. No pressure.
