Short answer: what is Adult IOP at Altura?

Adult IOP at Altura Recovery is a Houston intensive outpatient program for adults who need structured addiction treatment but do not need residential care. Clients attend 9 clinical hours per week with morning, evening, in-person, and virtual options depending on fit.

What Adult IOP at Altura looks like

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is the level of care for adults who need real, structured addiction treatment but don't need to live at a facility. You attend clinical programming three days per week — and the rest of your week is yours: work, family, sleep at home or in a partner sober living house.

  • 9 clinical hours per week — three 3-hour groups, Monday/Wednesday/Friday OR Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday tracks
  • Morning OR evening tracks — 9am–12pm or 6pm–9pm, so you can keep your job
  • Group therapy — CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, process groups
  • Weekly individual therapy with a licensed counselor
  • Psychiatric care for medication management (depression, anxiety, MAT for opioid/alcohol use disorder)
  • Family sessions as needed — addiction is a family disease
  • Sober living coordination through Aspire's women's sober living and men's sober living resources, plus trusted partner houses if you need housing structure
  • Drug screening as part of accountability

Who Adult IOP is the right fit for

  • You've finished detox or residential and need the next step down
  • You've tried regular outpatient therapy and need more structure
  • You're functional enough to live at home or in sober living but not stable enough for once-a-week therapy alone
  • You're dealing with co-occurring depression, anxiety, trauma, or bipolar alongside the substance use
  • You need treatment that works around a job, school, or family

Insurance — most adult IOP clients pay $0 after deductible

Altura is contracted in-network with Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, and Curative. We also accept most out-of-network PPO plans with verified benefits. Once deductible is met, outpatient mental health and substance use treatment is typically covered at 100% in-network for IOP when the plan allows it.

We run a free, no-obligation verification before you commit. You'll know your exact coverage, deductible, and out-of-pocket before the first session.

How fast can you start?

Most adult IOP clients start within 3–5 business days of the admissions call. Same-day intake is available for clients stepping out of detox or residential.

Adult IOP — common questions

How many hours per week is IOP?

9 hours per week — three 3-hour groups. Morning or evening tracks available so it works around your job.

Is IOP covered by insurance?

Yes. Altura is in-network with Ambetter, BCBS, UHC, Cigna, Aetna, and Curative. Most insured clients pay $0 out of pocket after deductible when their plan allows it. We verify your benefits free before any commitment.

Can I work while in IOP?

Yes. The evening track (6pm–9pm) is specifically designed for working adults. Most of our IOP clients hold full-time jobs.

What's the difference between IOP and PHP?

PHP (Partial Hospitalization) is 30 hours/week — like a part-time clinical job. IOP is 9 hours/week — clinical support with room to live your life. Most clients step down PHP → IOP → SOP → outpatient over 4–8 months.

Do I need to live in sober living for IOP?

Not required. Many clients live at home. Sober living is recommended if home isn't stable or if early recovery is fragile. We can coordinate housing through our partners if needed.

Will I be drug tested?

Yes. Random drug screens are part of IOP for accountability and clinical decision-making. This is standard for any credible IOP.

How long does IOP last?

Typical IOP duration is 8–12 weeks. Length depends on clinical progress, not insurance — we go as long as the work requires.

Stop putting it off. Adult IOP is built for people with lives.
