Sober Living in Houston

Structured sober living across the Houston metro, coordinated with PHP or IOP clinical care at Altura Recovery in Bellaire. We work with several sober living programs so clients can choose the house that fits. House managers, drug screens, peer accountability, and a clinical team that talks to your house team weekly.

Short answer: does Altura provide sober living?

Altura Recovery does not operate sober living homes. Altura coordinates clinical care with separately operated sober living programs across Houston so clients can attend PHP or IOP while living in a structured sober environment.

What separates structured sober living from a regular room rental

A sober living home is not the same as renting a room from someone in recovery. Real structured sober living has:

  • A house manager on site or on call
  • Random drug and alcohol screens
  • Curfew, chore, and house meeting expectations
  • Required attendance at recovery meetings or clinical sessions
  • A phased program — earned privileges as you build sobriety
  • Coordination with a clinical team if you're in PHP or IOP

Our sober living partners operate structured sober living across the Houston metro — Bellaire, Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, Tomball, Cypress, League City, Spring, Friendswood, and surrounding neighborhoods. Houses are gender-separated. Most clients stay 90 days to 12 months.

Structured accountability through sober living

For clients who need housing alongside clinical care, Altura Recovery coordinates with established sober living programs across the Houston metro. We don't operate housing ourselves — we maintain working relationships with separately operated houses so clients have a stable place to live while they attend PHP or IOP.

For families comparing gender-specific sober living options, we often point them to Aspire Recovery Homes' Houston resources for sober living for women in Houston and sober living for men in Houston, while also helping them evaluate other separately operated homes when those are a better fit.

What "structured accountability" means in a sober house

  • House manager on site or on call, peer-led check-ins, curfews
  • Random drug and alcohol screens
  • Required attendance at clinical sessions
  • Weekly recovery meetings and step work
  • Job, school, or volunteer expectations after stabilization

How it works with Altura Recovery clinical care

  • Admissions team helps you find a sober house that fits
  • Transportation coordinated between house and Altura when needed
  • Clinical team communicates with house staff to support your plan
  • Step-down planning starts on day one
  • Continued sober living after PHP and IOP if needed

Sober living programs are operated separately from Altura Recovery. Housing fees are billed independently and are not part of clinical billing.

Sober living programs we work with

Altura Recovery has working relationships with several sober living programs across the Houston metro. Each is separately operated and clients choose based on fit, location, and cost. One of these is Aspire Recovery Homes, with Houston resources for sober living for women and sober living for men. Our admissions team can introduce you to multiple options and help you decide.

Cost

Sober living housing fees are typically self-pay and range $800 to $2,400 per month in the Houston market depending on house, neighborhood, and amenities. Insurance does not cover housing in Texas. It does cover the PHP, IOP, and supportive outpatient clinical care you receive alongside housing.

If cost is the barrier, call us. We work through family contributions, scholarships, sliding-scale arrangements, and step-down planning that fits your budget.

Frequently asked questions

Does Altura Recovery run its own sober living houses?

Altura coordinates sober living through vetted partner homes, including Aspire Recovery Homes, rather than operating houses directly, and aligns housing with your PHP or IOP schedule.

Is sober living available near Houston?

Yes. We help Houston-area clients find structured recovery housing coordinated with treatment at our Bellaire clinic. Call 713-766-1330 to talk through options.

What is expected in sober living?

Structured recovery housing with house managers, regular drug screening, peer accountability, and curfews, paired with clinical care through PHP, IOP, or Structured Outpatient.

Does insurance cover sober living?

Housing costs are usually separate from clinical care, but most PPO plans cover the PHP or IOP portion. Altura is in-network with Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Cigna, Curative, UnitedHealthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, and we verify benefits free.
