What is MAT?

Medication-assisted treatment combines FDA-approved medication with counseling and behavioral therapy to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders. The medication eases withdrawal and cravings so you can focus on the clinical work; the therapy addresses what drives use. Research consistently shows the two together work better than either alone.

How Suboxone fits into outpatient care

Suboxone (buprenorphine with naloxone) reduces opioid cravings and withdrawal without the highs and lows of active use. At Altura it is one part of a full program — not a stand-alone prescription. Your medication is managed by a qualified prescriber and coordinated with group and individual therapy, so care stays integrated rather than fragmented.

Whether MAT is right for you, and for how long, is a clinical decision made with your provider based on your history and goals.

Who MAT is for

  • Opioid use disorder, including prescription painkillers and fentanyl
  • People who have relapsed after abstinence-only attempts
  • Anyone stepping down from detox or residential care who wants craving support
  • Alcohol use disorder, where other FDA-approved medications may be appropriate

Outpatient, not detox

Altura Recovery is an outpatient program and does not provide on-site medical detox or residential care. If detox is clinically needed first, we help coordinate it and provide MAT-supported outpatient treatment as the step-down afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Does Altura prescribe Suboxone?

Yes. Suboxone (buprenorphine) is available as part of our outpatient medication-assisted treatment, prescribed and managed by a qualified provider and combined with therapy through PHP, IOP, or SOP.

Isn't MAT just trading one drug for another?

No. Prescribed buprenorphine at a stable, monitored dose does not produce a high; it steadies brain chemistry so cravings and withdrawal stop running the show. It is an evidence-based medical treatment, used alongside counseling.

How long will I be on medication?

There is no fixed timeline. Some people taper off over months, others stay on longer. It is a clinical decision you make with your provider based on your progress and goals.

Is my insurance accepted?

Altura Recovery is in-network with Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Cigna, Curative, UnitedHealthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Most PPO plans cover outpatient MAT when medically necessary. We verify your benefits free before you start, with no obligation.

Is treatment confidential?

Yes. Care is confidential and protected by federal privacy rules including 42 CFR Part 2. We do not contact employers or family without a signed release unless an immediate safety issue requires it by law.
