Using Aetna for Outpatient Rehab in Houston

Medically reviewed by Eled Shkurti, LCSW, LCDC, Clinical Director at Altura Recovery · Last reviewed July 2026

Altura Recovery is not currently in-network with Aetna. Many Aetna plans still help cover outpatient addiction treatment through out-of-network benefits, and we make it easy to find out exactly what yours covers — at no cost and with no obligation.

How Aetna coverage usually works here

Aetna PPO and open-access plans commonly include out-of-network outpatient behavioral-health benefits, while HMO plans are usually in-network only. The only way to know your specific benefit is to check your plan. We do that for you: send your Aetna details through our free verification and we will explain your out-of-network coverage, any deductible or coinsurance, and your options in plain language.

Plans we are in-network with

If cost is a concern, it is worth knowing we are in-network with several major carriers: Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Cigna, Curative, UnitedHealthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. If you also hold one of those plans, you may have a lower-cost in-network option. See all accepted insurance.

What you get at Altura

  • Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Structured Outpatient (SOP)
  • Dual-diagnosis care for co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Medication-assisted treatment, including Suboxone, when clinically appropriate
  • Virtual IOP across Texas, and sober living coordinated through partner homes

Outpatient, not detox

Altura is an outpatient program and does not provide on-site medical detox or residential care. If either is needed first, we help coordinate a referral and provide outpatient step-down afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Is Altura Recovery in-network with Aetna?

No. Altura is currently out-of-network with Aetna. However, many Aetna plans reimburse out-of-network outpatient treatment, and we verify your specific benefits free before you commit.

Will Aetna still pay for treatment at Altura?

Often, yes — it depends on your plan. Aetna PPO and open-access plans commonly include out-of-network outpatient behavioral-health benefits, while HMO plans are usually in-network only. We check your benefits and tell you your expected cost up front, so there are no surprises.

Do I need a PPO for out-of-network coverage?

Generally out-of-network benefits come with PPO and open-access plans; strict HMO plans usually cover in-network care only. We verify which type you have and what it means for you.

What if my out-of-network cost is too high?

We are in-network with Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Cigna, Curative, UnitedHealthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, so if you carry one of those plans too you may have a lower-cost option. We also offer transparent self-pay pricing. Call 713-766-1330 and we will find the best path.

Is treatment confidential?

Yes. Care is protected by federal privacy rules including 42 CFR Part 2. We do not contact employers or family without a signed release unless an immediate safety issue requires it by law.
